What a Difference a Day Makes
“Today’s the day my life begins. Today, I become a citizen of the world. Today, I become a grown-up. Today, I become accountable to someone other than myself and my parents. Accountable for more than my grades. Today, I become accountable to the world. To the future. To all the possibilities that life has to offer. Starting today, my job is to show up wide-eyed and willing and ready. For what, I don’t know. For anything. For everything. To take on life. To take on love. To take on the responsibility and possibility. Today, my friends, our lives begin. And I, for one, can’t wait.”
-Becca, valedictorian
Beautifully said on the 100th episode of Grey’s Anatomy, where one of Seattle Grace’s patients and her fellow classmates got in a car accident on the way to their college graduation. This speech was very touching, and hit me hard since I graduated recently. Everything said totally captured my feelings as a newcomer to the “real world.” I’m not a crier, but when I heard those words while watching this episode…OMG (I didn’t cry, but I got teary-eyed…hehe).
I know I’m really late in posting this since the episode aired weeks ago, but I wanted to put this up now because it’s a speech that will be dear to me forever. In other words…I LOVE IT (and the episode’s content gives it so much more meaning)! Now…I’m not going to go into my feelings about Grey’s Anatomy and the episode because I know I can go on forever and I like to keep my posts short.
If this was a spoiler to you, and you haven’t watched this episode yet….SHAME ON YOU!!!
